COPPULL MEMORIES ~ THE VIDEO
In 1983, friends Keith Lees and Geoff Bellis were in the tap room of the Printer's Arms talking about the demolition of an old building in Coppull. Noting it was sad it had gone and no record remained, they then decided to collect old photographs of Coppull. Pictures of church and school life, industry, sport, leisure, people and places were borrowed, copied and the collection began.
In 1986 they produced a book called Coppull Memories, a photographical history of Coppull in the last 150 years. One thousand books were printed and sold, many going to relatives abroad. Today the collection contains about 1200 photos in twenty loose leaf folders. They are loaned out to anyone interested to look through them. The four Coppull schools have borrowed them and from time to time Geoff Bellis has shown them to various organised groups in the village.
Sadly in 2000 Kieth Lees died.Since 1986 people have continued to ask for copies of Coppull Memories, but there are none left.
In September 2001, Geoff's ex-school friend,Roger Roocroft,suggested making a video to answer the demand. This proved to be much more difficult to produce than a book and has taken a year to finish. The three hour tape, dedicated to Keith's memory contains, 311 photographs, 7 maps 3 interviews and 12 mins of live footage. The earliest photographs date from the 1880's.The video covers the following aspects of Coppull's history:

Section 2. Coming of the Railways.
Section 3. The Mines.
Section 4. Birkacre.
Section 5. The Mills.
Section 6. Churches and Schools.
Section 7. Transport.
Section 8. Sport and Leisure.
Section 9. People.
Section 10.Places.
Using Geoff's knowledge of Coppull's past history they have attempted to bring each photograph and map to life by an accompanying commentary.They feel that this technique adds an extra dimension to the preservation and documentation of local historical facts and details.
